BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 29.5.2018

COMMUNITY GAMES 2018: This coming Saturday and Sunday will see the first of
the National events being held in UL. We have 2 draughts team, our U-14
and U-16 teams participating under the watchful eye of Coach Terence
Dineen. Shauna Casey will take part in U-16 Model Making while Aaron
Horgan will take to the field with his U-12 relay team in the cross
country. Good luck to everyone. Last weekend we held our athletic sports
day. All went off great thanks to our many helpers who made it
possible. Thanks
Con Heffernan and Dan Kearney for all the hard work, Niall Lucey who did MC
and also won the Dads’ race for the 1st time and to Raymond Stack who
provided the sound system. All participant winners will be notified next
week about the upcoming games in June.

BALLYHEIGUE COMMUNITY CENTRE: Respite Daycare for Dependant/Alzheimer’s
Service Users*. * This service is available at Ballyheigue Community Centre
every Friday from 9.30am – 2.30pm. This provides a welcome respite
opportunity for carers, and provides a positive experience for the person
receiving care. We have a care assistant and Nurse on duty at all times.
For information and if you require transport to the Community Centre,
please contact the Centre on 066 7133837.

MEALS ON WHEELS: We can deliver any amount you require straight to your
door on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Collection from the Centre also
available. Please contact the Centre on 066 7133837 for more info.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES: In association with Kerryhead/Ballyheigue FRC birthday
party packages are available at your local Community Centre. Please call
the Centre on 066 7133837.

BINGO: Bingo every Thursday night at 8.30pm in the Community Centre.

NORMAL SERVICES from the Community Centre are postponed until Monday May
28th. The Community Centre is open to facilitate voting for the referendum
on May 25th only.

*KERRY BIODIVERSITY WEEK 2018: *There are lots of events happening around
the county for Kerry Biodiveristy Week 2018 – running form he 19th to the
27th May.

Some of the events listed are: From land-based whale watching to – bat
walks, a dawn chorus walk, plant identification walks, a swift talk and
walk, nature walks; and an organic farm biodiversity walk, and more. All
Events Are Free Of Charge. This week is organised by Kerry County Council
and local community and environmental groups. There are additional events
not on the brochure and they can be found on FB

POPE FRANCIS’S MASS: Anybody interested in attending the Mass to be
celebrated by Pope Francis in Phoenix Park, on 26th August, please hand
names into the Parish Office. We may organise a bus if enough people are

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: Congratulations to the boys and girls from our
Parish who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday. Thanks to the
teachers for preparing them so well, the choir for their musical support
and their parents for making the day a great spiritual occasion for them May
Our Lady lead and protect them always.

GLENDAHALAN MASS: The Annual Mass at Tobar na Súl takes place at 8.00pm on
Wednesday 7th June. We hope that all Parishioners will support this
historical, Holy Place.

DEATH: The death occurred of Kathleen Doyle (née Forde), Marian Park and
formerly of Ballinamona, Menlough, Ballinasloe, Co Galway on 9th May 2018;
reposing on Friday 11th May at St. Mary’s Funeral Home, Menlough. Requiem
Mass on Saturday 12th May and burial afterwards to Doonane Cemetery,
Ballinasloe. May She Rest in Peace. Sadly missed by her loving family,
beloved mother of daughter Kerry, Sons Kevin and Paul, son-in-law,
daughters-in-law, grandchildren, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives
and friends.

SYMPATHY is also extended to Paddy O’Reilly, Doon, Ballyheigue on the death
of his mother Bridie O’Reilly (née Keane) Lixnaw Village. May She Rest in
peace.

GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Sunday’s GAA Lotto:
5-6-12-23. The Jackpot of €8,450 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will be
€8,500. The two €50 winners were: Michael O’Hehir, Ballylongane and Karen
James, Ballylongane. The €25 winner was Betty Sheehy, Church Road,
Ballyheigue.

Well done to Ballyheigue U14 footballers who won the semi-final of the
county league Division 5 on Wednesday evening. Final score Ballyheigue
5-15 Spa, Killarney 2-4.

Well done to the Ballyheigue U10 Footballers who played brilliantly at

Senior Hurling League Final result: Sonny Harris Cup Abbeydorney 1-14

ST. BRENDAN’S AC: A final reminder for the schools in the parish that the
primary school sports are on this Wednesday evening in An Fearann, behind
Ardfert Medical Centre. Pupils and parents are asked to be at the field at
6pm for registration. The cost per pupil is 3 euro.

Training continues at An Fearann on Wednesdays at 6.30pm for all juveniles
while adult training is on Tuesdays in Banna at 8pm.

UNDER-16: The Ballyheigue U-16 hurlers were defeated by Ballyduff in a very
exciting Div.1. Co. League final on Tuesday evening. Score Ballyheigue
0-10 and Ballyduff 0-13.

UNDER-12: Hurlers had a big win over Kenmare/Kilgarvan in the Co. League on
Friday evening. This win makes Ballyheigue joint winners of the League.

SENIORS: The senior hurlers lost to Abbeydorney in the North Kerry League
Final on Friday evening. Score Ballyheigue 1-8 and Abbeydorney 1-14.

UNDER-14: The U-14 hurlers made the long journey to Kenmare on Sunday
morning and came away with a two point loss. Final score Ballyheigue 2-3
and Kenmare/Kilgarvan 2-5.

KERRY HURLERS: The Kerry Senior Hurlers were defeated by Westmeath in the
Joe McDonagh Cup at Austin Stack’s Park on Sunday. This result will make
it difficult for Kerry to qualify. Full time score Kerry 0-15 and
Westmeath 2-12. Michael Leane and Philip Lucid were members of the panel.

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 14th May in the
Ballyheigue & District Club Lotto: 3-22-26-27. Jackpot was not won. The
€50 winner was Ava Lyons, C/o John B. The €25 winners were: John Madden,
C/o Christina; Donal Carrick, C/o Pat, and Tom O’B/Paddy, C/o MO’H. Next
week’s Jackpot €9,250.
