COMMUNITY GAMES 2018: We had a fantastic weekend in UL last weekend at the
All Ireland finals. Saturday started early for Shauna Casey in the U16
model making, but by lunch time the results were in and yet again Shauna
was returning home with the biggest prize of the competition another 1st
and Gold medal to add to her every growing collection. What a brilliant
talent. Next up was Aaron Horgan who along with his Kerry teammates took
to the fields in the Cross country relay. They did great to qualify for the
final on Sunday. Aaron had a fantastic run on Sunday coming in the first
few spots, but his team were very unlucky to just have missed the medal
coming 5th overall. I’m sure this is just the beginning of a successful
career. Our U14 and U16 draughts team under the guidance of Terence Dineen
met with tough opposition in the Semi finals. The U14 team had a draw but
missed out on the countback so went on to play and win 3rd places on
Sunday. Well done Denis Lynch, Dara Donnelly, Darragh Fuairain, David
O’Grady, Charlie Fitzgerald and Matthew Boyle. U16 draughts team of Adam
Dineen, David O’Sullivan, Dara Kearney, Oisin O’Regan, Sam Fitzgerald Eric
Walsh and Maggie Stack won 8-2 on Saturday to secure a place in the final
2, they went on to draw and won out on a countback. It was very tense for
a while. Thanks to everyone who came out to support our competitors on
Sunday evening. It was lovely to acknowledge such brilliant achievement.
