BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 18th April 2016

AGM: The annual general Meeting of the Ballyheigue Social Economy
Enterprises Ltd. (Ballyheigue Community Centre) will be held in Ballyheigue
Community Centre, on this Wednesday 20th April at 8.00pm.

AT THE AGM OF THE PATTERN ‘THRASHER GROUP’: which was held recently the
following officers were elected: President: Sonny O’Halloran; Chairperson:
Joe O’Sullivan; Vice-chairperson: Liam O’Mahony; Treasurer: Mary

Secretary: Micheál O hAllmhuráin; Asst. Secretary: Cathy Curran; PRO: John
Thornton; Liaison Officers: Tom Lawlor and Mary Duggan-O’Halloran.

The success of the last Pattern Festival was reviewed and some new
innovations will be rolled out as part of its development. A Meet and Greet
Diaspora Day is planned for the 6th September. A Singing and Song Workshop
is also being pencilled in as part of the plan of action. The committee
wishes to thank everyone for their co-operation and assistance, especially,
the musicians, singers, dancers and school and Comhaltas groups that
performed. It also wishes to thank Mr Timmy Kenny and Kerry Co. Council for
their very generous sponsorship. The next meeting is on 13th May at 8.30 in
the White Sands Hotel and you are most welcome to join our Group and its
work for our culture and community.

1916 CONCERT CHOIR: Kerry Choral Union will perform a 1916 Commemoration
Concert on Sunday 24th April at 7.30pm in Our Lady & St Brendan’s Church,
Tralee. Musical Director: Sharon Reidy, Accompanist: Áine Murray,
Traditional Instrumentalists. Admission free. Kerry Choral Union is a
community based choir and always welcome new members. Contact can be made

CAMOGIE CLUB: Training for girls from 5yrs to 12 yrs will take place on
Saturday mornings from 10am to 11am in the Astro turf Causeway. Cost

€2. All girls welcome to come along and give it a go. (Helmet & Hurley will
be provided). This is a great way to make new friends and learn a new sport.

GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Sunday’s GAA Lotto:
4-10-13-16. The Jackpot of €3,150 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will
be €3,200. The two €50 winners were: Ann Dineen, Tiershanahan and Eoin
Reidy, Glendahalan. The €25 winner was John Lucid, Mountway.

U-14 FOOTBALL: In their previous outing Ballyheigue U-14 Footballers had
trailed by 9 points at half-time (away) against Kerins O’Rahillys and won
by 2. Last Wednesday evening (away) against Ardfert they trailed by 6
points at half-time and again won by 2 points, 3-10 to 3-8. Great

UNDER-14: The U-14 football and hurling teams had wins during the week.
The football team defeated Ardfert score Ballyheigue 3-10 and Ardfert 3-8.
The hurlers defeated Ballyduff in the Co. League, score Ballyheigue 1-9 and

UNDER-16: The U-16 hurlers were defeated by Abbeydorney on Thursday evening
in the Co. League.

UNDER-12: The U-12 hurlers were unlucky to lose to St. Brendan’s in the Co.
League on Friday evening, score Ballyheigue5-4 and St. Brendans 5-6.

Wednesday evening 7.00pm. North Kerry Intermediate League Ballyheigue v
Ladies-Walk this Wednesday at Ballyduff 6.30pm. Co. U-16 hurling league

PATRICK O’MAHONY TOURNAMENT: The semi-finals took place on Saturday
evening. St. Rynaghs, Offaly defeated Kilmoyley in the first game, score:
St. Rynaghs 0-15 and Kilmoyley 1.10. In the second semi-final Dromin
Athlacca, Limerick defeated Ballyheigue, score: Ballyheigue 0-8 and Dromin
Athlacca 1-9. In the final on Sunday St. Rynaghs were too strong for Dromin
Athlacca. Full time score: St. Rynaghs 2-9 and Dromin Athlacca 1-7. The
Patrick O’Mahony Cup was presented to St. Rynaghs Captain Daniel Moloney.
The Player of the Tournament went to St. Rynaghs Garry Kelly. The
Ballyheigue GAA Club would like to thank the sponsers who supported the

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 11th April in
the Ballyheigue & District Coursing Club Lotto: 4-8-14-21. Jackpot was not
won. The €50 winner was Patricia Reidy, C/o Flahive’s. The €25 winners
were: Pat Flahive, Dave Harris, C/o Kitty and Ricky Keane, C/o Christina.
Next week’s Jackpot €3,800.

DEATH: The death took place of Moira O’Connor (née O’Carroll), Mountway,
Ballyheigue and late of The Rectory and New York. Deeply regretted by her
brothers: Fr. Dermot (Fermanagh) of the Passionate Order and Brendan,
family and friends. Reposing at her brother’s Brendan O’Carroll residence,
Mountway, Ballyheigue on Thursday 14th April, followed by removal to St.
Mary’s Church, Ballyheigue. Requiem Mass on Friday 15th April followed by
burial in the Old Cemetery, Kilmoyley. RIP.

The death took place of Eileen (Nelly) O’Sullivan (née Casey), Clahane,
Ballyduff and formerly of Ballylongane, Ballyheigue and New Jersey, U.S.A.
Deeply regretted by her loving sons: John-Michael, Martin and Anthony and
daughters: Bridie-Mai, Chrissie, Ellen, Julie, Margaret-Mary, Kathleen and
Noreen, brother: Pat Joe, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons-in-law,
daughters-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Requiem Mass on Monday 11th April followed by burial inRahela,Cemetery,
Ballyduff. R.I.P.

UKRAINE APPEAL: Pope Francis has announced his intention to hold a special
collection in all Catholic Parishes of Europe next Sunday, 24th April to
come to the need of the elderly and children in the Ukraine who are in a
very difficult situation.
