BALLYHEIGUE NOTES 8th August 2016
CONCERT: A Grand Variety Concert will be held in the Community Centre at
8.00pm on Wednesday 17th August, under the auspices of the Heritage Group,
to help fund the forthcoming parish Missionary Book. This book will be
launched on 19th November 2016 and not on the 7th September as previously
planned. Your support for this historic research is deeply appreciated.
THE CASEMENT EVENT: The organizing committee wishes to thank everyone who
helped stage the historic Roger Casement Event on the 3rd August last and
also all those who attended for making it such a success. The presence of
Casement’s great grandniece, Margaret Farrington-Curtis from Australia,
made the Commemoration extra special.
The Monument near the Green now has an inlaid plaque giving details of our
patriot’s life story for future generations to read. A beautiful copy of
the Proclamation was also set in the pedestal of the monument during the

Killorglin Pipers, the Summer Festival Group, and the local school students
and also so many individuals, like singer Mary Lucid, musicians Kerry
Barrett and Tom Kennedy, and Proclamation readers Maura O’Sullivan, Máiréad
Moriarty and John Joe Duggan made the occasion both a local and national
one. Seán Seosamh Ó Conchubhair, the last member of the Banna Monument
Committee unveiled the plaque which was sculpted by Maurice Roche, and
Teddy Healy laid a wreath as a mark of respect. Local TD, Mr. John Brassil,
was invited to help host the Event and the committee wishes to thank him
for fulfilling his function so well.
The inclement weather didn’t dampen the spirit of the occasion and the
lecture by Ms. Helen O’Carroll and the dramatic presentation of Casement’s
life by the Causeway Players gave a rounded feeling to the highly
