BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – Michael Burkett
BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 22ndAugust 2016
PATTERN “THRASHER” FESTIVAL: This year’s Festival is shaping up to be a
super Event again this September. With the financial aid of the Community
Development Department of Kerry Co. Council the committee has put in place
another aspect of its plans for the future of the annual festival.
This aspect involves the rolling out of the programme for the Diaspora –
Homecoming – Day. This celebration will be held on Tuesday 6th September
and meetings over the last year have perfected a very thoughtful evening
for our citizens returning to the parish of the birth for their annual
renewal of friendships during their Pattern holiday sojourn. On the 7th,
the eve of the Pattern, the Threshing Night’s Celebrations is again
organised around two structured sessions in the White Sands Hotel.
So let everyone spread the word among returning relatives that a special
welcome is in store for them at the old-style traditional kitchen which
will be in place for them in a Ballyheigue town venue on the Tuesday in the
run up the Pattern Day. As usual, the 8th September Mass at Our Lady’s Well
will be celebrated by Most Rev. Raymond Browne, Bishop of Kerry.
BALLYHEIGUE COMMUNITY GAMES: Well done to Leanna Roche who came in 7th
place at U14 Long Puck in The National Finals in Athlone at the weekend.
This concludes our year 2016 and what a very successful year we had. It
won’t be long again before next year calendar will be on the agenda so keep
an eye out on The Notes for future developments. As always we will continue
to hold our Annual quiz around Christmas time. Fundraising is a fundamental
part of Community Games so we ask that you keep in mind all our success and
all the children we had participating in lots of events. All these events
cost to participate in. Thanks to everyone who has helped us out in anyway
