U-16 DIV 1 FINAL: The Ballyheigue U16 hurlers were crowned Co Div 1
Hurling League Champions when they defeated a good Crotta team in the Final
on Friday evening at Causeway. This was a very close contest. Crotta led
by two points at the break. Half-time score, Ballyheigue 1-6 and Crotta
2-5. The Ballyheigue scorers in the opening half were David O’Mahony,
Graham Slattery, Ricky Hussey. and Nathan Guerin who was deadly accurate
from placed balls and play. In the second-half Ciaran Casey hit a long ball
from the middle of the field and it deceived the Crotta keeper and ended up
in the net. Further scores from Ricky Hussey, Nathan Guerin, and a great
goal by Colin Walsh that put the game out of reach of a fine Crotta team.
The other players to impress were: Darren Stack, Seami O’Fuaroin, Tomas
Gaynor, Rory Duggan and Jordan Goggin. Overall it was a complete team
performance. Fair play to the Crotta team who never gave up as they added
a further 1-3 to their half-time tally. Full time score Ballyheigue 3-11
and Crotta 3-8. The trophy was presented by Taidhg O’Halloran Coiste na
