BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 30TH May 2017
COMMUNITY GAMES 2017: Our Annual Sports day was held last Sunday in the
Sportfield. A great day was had and we were very lucky with the weather. We
thank Ballyheigue GAA for the use of the field and most especially Con
Heffernan who never fails to come to our assistance each year with setting
up the field and his continued great knowledge of community games and
support. Thanks to Dan Kearney for helping out Con; the ever hard working
committee and the helpers on the day, Niall Lacey MC, Mark Stack, Mark
O’Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Tom Brendan, Bryan and Tomas. Moira Horgan will
coach the children for the upcoming County Games in June – information to
SWIMMING CLASSES: Irish Water Safety Swimming Classes for school-going will
be held in Ballyheigue from July 10th to 15th. Enquiries to 087-730320.
CAMOGIE: Kerry Camogie County Board are holding a church gate collection at
Mass in Ballyheigue this weekend. All support greatly appreciated.
GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Sunday’s GAA Lotto:
2-12-24-26. The Jackpot of €5,950 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will be
€6,000. The two €50 winners were: Paddy Godley, Cliff Road and Marie
Horgan, Marian Park, Ballyheigue. The €25 winner was Delia Casey, Cliff
BALLYHEIGUE U-12 FOOTBALL: In our second match we played Kerins O’Rahillys
in Ballyrickard. The ‘A’ team won by a single point on a score line of 5-9
to 4-11 after a great comeback. The ‘B’ team, who were short a few,
suffered a heavy defeat 5-20 to
2-4. Training continues on Thursday.
UNDER 15s HURLING BLITZ: Ballyheigue, Crotta, St. Brendan’s and Tralee
Parnell’s took part in the Co-ten-a-side Blitz at the John Joe O’Sullivan
Park on Tuesday evening. Ballyheigue had wins over Crotta and Parnell’s.
The St. Brendan’s Team also had wins over Parnell’s and Crotta. Those
results took Ballyheigue and St. Brendan’s into the final, with the
Ballyheigue boys coming out on top. Full time score Ballyheigue 4-8, St.
Brendan’s 2-3. The Ballyheigue team will now represent Kerry in the
Munster finals which will be held in Mallow, Co. Cork on Saturday 10th

UNDER 11s: The U-11 team lost to Parnell’s on Friday evening in the North
UNDER 14s: The Ballyheigue U-14 hurlers are through to the Co. League Div.
1 Final. They defeated Ballyduff in the Co. Semi-final on Saturday
evening. Full time score Ballyheigue 3-7 and Ballyduff 0-5. They now will
play Kenmare/Kilgarvan in the Co. Div. 1 Final. Venue and date to be

FEILE TABLE QUIZ: A fund raising table quiz will be held at the White
Sands Hotel, this Friday 2nd June at 9.00pm. Table of four €20. Please
POC FADA: The Poc Fada competition will take place on Saturday 3rd June at
Kerryhead Mountain at 1.30pm. One Under 16 years competitor, one Senior
competitor and one Camogie competitor from each club can take part.
COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 22nd May in the
Ballyheigue & District coursing Club: 6-2-20-27. Jackpot was not won. The
€50 winner was Jim Healy, C/o Macs. The €25 winners were: Jeremy McKenna,
C/o John B., Caden Crowley, C/o Christina and Bridget Griffin, C/o
Christina. Next week’s Jackpot €6,650.
COURSING MEETING: A meeting of Ballyheigue & District Coursing Club will be
held in the White Sands Hotel on Thursday 1st June at 9.30pm.
DEATH: The death has occurred of Maureen Moynihan, Sraid Thaidhg,
Ballyheigue. Reposed at Hartnett’s Funeral Home on Friday evening 26th
May. Requiem Mass on Saturday 27th May in St. Mary’s Church and burial
afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballyheigue. May she rest in peace.
Sadly missed by her family: Tom, Sons: Michael, Francis, Brendan and
Joseph, relatives and friends.
GLENDAHALAN MASS: The Annual Mass at Tobar na Súl, Glendahalan takes place
at 8.00pm on Wednesday 7th June. We hope that all Parishioners will
support this historical, Holy Place.
FIRST FRIDAY – COMMUNION CALLS to the elderly will take place on Thursday 1
st June, and Friday 2nd June beginning at 1.30pm. Please inform relatives
OUR LADY OF FATIMA: Rosary of Reparation will be recited in the Grotto at
3.00pm on Saturday 3rd June. All very welcome
ARDFERT RETREAT CENTRE: A day of Spiritual Nourishment for mind and body
