“THE FIELD” by John B. Keane in association with Ballyheigue Community
Players is back for one more show in the Community Centre on Wednesday 12th
July. This is your last chance to see it. Doors open 7.30pm. Show starts
8.00pm. Admission €10 at door. Proceeds from the play, donated to the
Trish Flavin (née Guerin) fund.

SENIOR: The Senior hurlers were well beaten by a very strong Lixnaw team
in round 1 of the Co Championship at Austin Stack’s Park on Friday
evening. Score Ballyheigue 1-8 Lixnaw 1-26 They must now concentrate on
the losers round against Abbeydorney which will be played on Sunday next at
Austin Stack’s Park At 1 45pm.

GAA CÚL CAMP: The Kellogs GAA hurling Cúl Camp will be held at John Joe
O’Sullivan Park from 17th to 21st of July. If you have not yet registered

DEATHS: The death occurred of Cyril O’Connell, Rae, Kilflynn and formerly
of Clahaneleish, Ballyheigue, beloved husband of Bridget and dear
father of Vincent, Michael, J C., Annette and Doreen. Sadly missed by his
family, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers Vinnie, Kevin and
Fintan, sister Ester, sons-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours
and many friends. Reposing at Gleasures Funeral Home on Tuesday 2nd July.
Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn, Requiem Mass on Wednesday 3rd
July, and Internment afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kilflynn. May He
Rest in Peace.

THE DEATH occurred of Cornelius, Brendan O’Sullivan, Sherlockstown,
Sallins, Co. Kildare and late of Glenlea, Ballyheigue. Requiem Mass on
Saturday 8th July in St. Mary’s Church and burial afterwards in St. Mary’s
Cemetery, Ballyheigue. May he rest in Peace. Sadly missed by his loving
family – his mother Mary, Father Cornelius (deceased), Sisters: Mary
Agnes Hartell, England; Angela Hosek and Patsy O’Sullivan, USA; Monica
Hennessy, Tullow, Co. Carlow and his brothers-in-law, extended family and
friends. May He Rest in Peace.

HORIZONS: This week’s Horizons Sunday programme on Radio Kerry was on the
study of the Missionary Movement, researched in the parish of Ballyheigue.
Mary Fagan, the presenter, combined some interviews with the music and
songs of our area as recorded on the CD that accompanies the book ‘Going
Global for God’. A lovely programme to catch! You can hear this programme
again in approx. two week’s time in PODCAST format on Radio Kerry.

LECTURE SUCCESS: The insightful lecture by Bryan MacMahon on the tragedy of
The Famine in Ballyheigue drew a very large attendance during the Summer
Festival. It was based on years of research, contained in his recently
published book ‘The Great Famine in Tralee and North Kerry’.

In the Q & A session afterwards Dr. Pádraig Ó Donnabháin, retired schools’
inspector, spoke on how The Famine affected the schools of the period. His
major study of the founding and history of the national school system and
inspectorate will be launched in the Tralee Library on the 31st August.

The Heritage Group’s Summer Concert will be held in the White Sands on
Saturday 12th August with a link up with Aidan O’Carroll and the Kerry
School of Music and trad. groups.
